Education

David Mayne has 20 years experience of education work in venues ranging from schools, colleges and community settings where he has encouraged both children and adults to participate in and develop new creative skills. He has also run training sessions for teachers and educators.

As a practising sculptor David is interested in projects that introduce both children and teachers to this discipline especially as so many schools tend to be apprehensive about 3 dimensional work. Although, in both his studio pieces and public art work he uses electric welders and various power tools, when working at school he adopts a much more low-tech approach, using materials, techniques and equipment that are easily obtainable and easily learnt. This includes wire, foil and found objects. By using self sustainable materials and techniques the pupils can then share these new found skills at home with their families.

These materials are suitable for both primary and secondary schools - from simple portrait sculptures to constructions that explore architecture and geometric forms. They also have cross curriculum links to DT, maths, science, citizenship (team building) and environmental issues e.g. recycling.
